Guilty pleasure: chapter 13

An explosion ripped through the stairs. The wind smashed us down like toys. The door had blown. I scrambled on ll fours to get away, just get away. Zachary got to his feet, dragging me up by one arm. We ran.
That's the start of this chapter, I just... 'the door had blown'? What??????????????
Anyways, Zach and Anita scramble to find purchase on the smooth wall as the wind howls around them, JC's voice is suddenly there also, calling Anita's name, then suddenly blue eyes appear and start moving towards her. Somehow Anita gets an idea of what JC's eyes were about to do and that this mystery thing would be a very bad thing.
Anita starts crawling away from JC's hologram eyes, fighting against the winds and her own injuries, as the eyes draw closer (the wind doesn't appear to be effecting them in the slightest) JC's voice asks her to forgive him, Anita screams at him to leave her alone. Something about blue fire and a voice whispering 'run, run' then nothing, she opens her eyes to see Zach staring at her, the wind is gone and shes hyperventilating. Zach makes this situation even better by exclaiming that her eyes glowed blue, Anita hushes him, somehow knowing that no one knowing what had just happened would decide the length of her life.
And they are running again, Anita is really positive that if she doesn't run she'll die in this place, if Nicky catches her, she'll kill her without explaining why.
As they continue to run up the stairs we learn that Anita has a knee injury that is starting to give her trouble, she feels the need to point out that if you put her on a flat surface she could run for hours (really? I find that a little unbelievable since she's struggling to breath right about now) but put her on a slight incline and she'll have issues. Anita stops to stretch out since her knee has started to show signs of giving out on her, Zach collapses on the stairs and Anita has a smug moment thinking that he'll seize up if he doesn't keep moving.
While she stretches out she hears a noise ahead and thinks about the fact that her gun is still sitting in the boot of her car which does her a fat lot of good.
I hate to be the one to break it, but I'm pretty sure that if they took the rest of the weapons they'd have taken her gun.
A human with a unmarked neck appears around the corner, he has cotton white hair, is around six-three, has massive muscles and 'there wasn't enough fat on him to grease a cake pan.' has blue eyes (the driscription is longer and more pointless then that) he doesn't have a tan so Anita compares him to Moby Dick for some reason, and is wearing a black mesh shirt, tight pants and easily removed joggers. Not entirely sure why we needed to know all this about him, but yay for imagery?

We then learn he can bench-press 400, smiles with closed lips in an attempt to mimic being a vampire and his name is winter, which Anita internally thinks that his name is too perfect, like a 1940s movie star.
Never realized winter was a name of such perfection.
Zach tells Winter that JC and Nicky are fighting which seems to surprise our white whale. When he learns that Anita is the executioner he laughs before stating that she's not big enough to be the executioner, Anita replies that it disappoints her too sometimes, which Winter seems to find hilarious since he swallows his laughter, leaving his eyes shining.
Zach suggests that they get out of there, but Winter states that he was sent to check on Nicky, Zach replies that she can look after herself, Anita injects a 'nooo' into the conversation, I'm assuming it's suppose to be sarcastic since Zach looks at her and she internally admits that she just can't help herself.
The apparent humor in this book will lead me to suicide just watch...
While Winter leads the way up the stairs, Anita thinks about how she wouldn't willingly go back down those stairs but there were always other options while staring at Winter's back in a meaningful way.

Another short chapter, this one was only 4.5 pages long, at this rate I'll be 30 by the time I'm done.
Speaking of it's my birthday tomorrow (Yay for getting older!) so the chance of me doing the next chapter tomorrow is so thin you can hear Gordon Ramsey insulting it with an amusing pun.
