Guilty Pleasures: Chapter 19

I've honestly had a pretty shocking day, so apologies in advance if this isn't as amusing/more abusive then usual.

Anita and Phil get outside, it's  hot. Anita comments that he'll melt wearing a jacket in this heat, he replies that most people object to his scars. Anita uses this as an opportunity to show off her scars, when Phil finds out that those aren't the only vampire related scars she's got, he gets turned on...
I just...
Yeah, I think that pretty much sums up the look I have on my face with the start of this chapter. I'm not sure if I should be vaguely amused or vomiting violently.

Phil takes comfort in the fact he isn't the only scarred wonder in the group and removes his jacket, his left arm is covered with a bandage and his right is a mass of scars, Anita shows just how comfortable she is by staring at him.
He offers to put his jacket back on and well, we get this.

"Why do you do what you do?"
He smiled, but it was twisted, a wry smile. "That is a very personal question."
"You did ask anyway" I glanced across the street. "I usually go to Mabel's, but we might be seen."
"Ashamed of me?" His voice held a sharp edge to it, like sandpaper.

They have more back and forth about how because he rocked up at her work pretending to be her 'friend' if they go somewhere she's known they'll have to keep up the charade for some reason. Why she can't just tell Jami that he got the wrong idea is beyond me.
Phil goes on about how females usually spend a lot of money for him to escort them, Anita responds with a duh, since she did see him at the club. He then goes on about how she's just embarrassed to be seen with him because of his scars.
Anita stops and thinks that she's hurt his feelings again, and that even though that fact doesn't actually bother her, she knows what it's like to be the scarred freak so it's the principle of the matter and tells him that they're going to Mabel's.
Phil says thank you, rewarding her with his awesome smile. Anita goes on that if she was less professional (love, you're wearing an over-sized penguin shirt) the smile would melt her socks off, going on to state that even though it's a smile full of sex there was also a hint of uncertainty which she claims is the hook that pulls the girls in, since there is nothing more hot then a handsome man who is also uncertain of himself.
Apparently this appeals to the mother in all females, and that she's awesome because she's immune, plus she's seen what his kink is and she's not impressed.

Dammit don't make me bust out the Toothless pic again! I feel bad dragging a cute dragon into this mess, but it helps distract me from my pain.

We learn that Mabel's is a popular diner that gets most of it's business from office folk that Anita happily looks down her nose at, on Saturday its deserted, we meet Beatrice, the older waitress that Anita pretty much calls fat and homely to look at it. She also apparently doesn't get any time off since Anita goes on to say that every time she comes into the diner she lowers herself to speak to her.
Phil is introduced, Beatrice drools over him. Anita goes on to think that she's never seen her do that before and if she noticed the scars and do they matter to her.
Well maybe she isn't a judgmental bitch like you Anita, just because you have issues with his body doesn't mean everybody does!

Anita orders the meatloaf even though she bitches that it's really to hot for it, they then manage to pay and find a table without Phillip flirting with anyone else. A major accomplishment.
Phil asks her what happened to JC, Anita tells him to wait while she says grace over her food and then chows in while giving him the edited version of what happened the night before.
Once she's finished Phil is staring off behind her, saying that he's worried that Nicky will kill JC. When Anita asks what punishment Nicky uses on vamps, we learn that she locks them in coffins. Using crosses to hold them inside.

WAIT, wait just one bloody second, it was stated earlier that crosses have to be blessed and enforced with faith to work against vampires, are you telling me that Nicky has a bunch of blessed crosses laying around with someone who truly believes just... Working for her? THIS MAKES NO SENSE! WHY HASN'T SHE BEEN KILLED OFF? WHY DOES SHE HAVE DANGEROUS WEAPONS LAYING AROUND HER HEADQUARTERS?!

Anyways, apparently Aubrey is as nutso as he is because he was locked up in such a fashion for three months.
Anita shivers as she wonders if JC will go crazy after being locked up, she picks up her fork and magically finds herself halfway through a blueberry pie, she hates blueberries yet ordered it? Does she usually order things she doesn't like?
Phil asks what she's going to do so Anita pulls out a file, the decreased is Maurice, who cohabited with a Rebecca Miles for the past five years.Cohabited sounded better then shacked up, tch that whore.
Anita goes on that she'll go and talk to the friends of lovers of Maurice, Phil asks for some of the names since he might recognize some of them.
Anita internally debates about this since he is the daytime eyes and ears of the vampires, meaning that this information would get back to the wrong people screwing her investigation five ways to Sunday.
We then learn that Anita has already spoken to Rebecca with the backing of the police and she had told them zip, she then goes on to think that Nicky wants results and what Nicky wants she'd better get.
So she tells him the name, he states what she already knows, that Rebecca is Maurice's property.
No equal rights in the vamp world I guess.

Phil gets to his feet, when Anita asks what he's doing he explains that he's coming along since he could help.
Anita says that he might appear strong and fast, but since he doesn't carry a gun and how most people think they can handle violence until they witness it first hand in which they freeze, she then makes everything worse by stating that the only way to become use to violence is practice, it will make you suspicious as all hell but it'll lengthen your life. Phil might have experience with violence but only as a victim and Anita doesn't want a professional victim tagging along.

I just... So she's saying that everyone who deals with violence, police, paramedics, soldiers etc are only good at their job once they've experienced so much violence that they become immune to it? The stupid, it burns!

Anita comes to the conclusion that since she isn't expecting a gun battle in daylight, and the chance that people will talk to Phil more then her, she lets him tag along.
As long as he didn't flash that smile at the wrong time and get molested by nuns, we would be safe.

She then goes to ask that if shit hits the fan would he try and rescue her, or just let her deal with it. He's honest and says that he'll find a handy suit of armor, a white steed and bravely rush to her defense.
Anita says that she'd rather he didn't come then because... Him getting involved would damage her street cred?
Phil points out that without him no one will talk to her, since you know. She's the vampire bogeyman and all that.
When Anita fails to talk her way out of that convincing argument, Phil smiles and says that he's glad it's settled and he'll tag along her with. She claims that she didn't agree to it, a claim he shuts down by saying she didn't not agree to it.
Isn't that what she did just then?
Anyways, they have a staring contest, Anita wanks on about how there was no smashing of egos like between her and Bert then they leave.

Did this chapter add anything to the story? No, it was just a massive info-dump/rehash spread out between scar angst and eating. Fucking pointless.
